About Us

To improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of our community.
Unite our community to advance the common good and create opportunities to help all people reach their full potential.
The Community Chest of Manhattan was founded in 1944. That first year, a group of volunteers worked together to raise $5,800 on behalf of several social service agencies in the community. The Community Chest eventually changed its name to United Way and added professional staff. In 2014 United Way changed its name to Konza United Way in order to reflect the organization's regional commitment to improving health, education and income opportunities throughout Clay, Marshall, Pottawatomie, Riley, Wabaunsee and Washington Counties.
We invest our resources — financial, employees, community partnerships — in three specific initiatives: education, health, and income, creating a collaborative effort to impact the critical problems facing our region.
Our primary goal is to advance education, financial stability and health for those living in our six-county region who are facing poverty.
Konza United Way is changing the odds for families facing poverty by focusing on the basic building blocks of a self-sufficient life: education, financial stability and health.
In philanthropy, Konza United Way does what no single donor or entity can do alone. We galvanize and connect all sectors of society — individuals, businesses, nonprofits and governments — to raise the resources needed to create long-term social change that produces healthy, educated and financially-stable individuals and families. Together, we can accomplish more than any single person, group or organization.
Konza United Way's goal is to create long-lasting change by addressing the underlying causes of problems facing those in need. Advancing the common good is less about helping one person at a time and more about changing systems to help all of us. We are all connected and interdependent. We all win when a child succeeds in school, when families are financially stable, when people are healthy.

Living united means being a part of the change. It takes everyone in the community working together to create a brighter future. Give. Advocate. Volunteer. LIVE UNITED.
